Talk with Cristina Manoli

1. Dear, Cristina, what would you like us to know about you?
C: I am an artist inspired by challenges and I like to turn every experience, including the one of wearing a cochlear implant, into a creative opportunity. My art is about discovering a new way of listening and feeling sounds.
2. Which three words would describe your experience in this project?
C: 1. Captivating 2.Challenging 3. Connecting
3. If your artwork exhibited in the virtual gallery could speak, what would it say about you and its story?
C: It would say I’m a person who has learned to embrace both sound and its absence. My work tells the story of a journey of adaptation, learning and the rediscovery of sound.
4. If others could feel exactly what you felt during the moment of creation, what emotion would you communicate to them?
C: I would communicate to them the feeling of creative release, that pure joy I feel when my work authentically reflects who I am.
5. The film you worked on was a team project. What part of the filming process did you enjoy the most?
C: Wave’s Imprint team allowed me to express my creativity freely and authentically. I enjoyed the directing and coordinating of the scenes, seeing how every element, from lights and sounds to movement, comes to life and tells a story. I found that fascinating.
6. Was there a funny or unexpected moment during the filming?
C: An unexpected moment was when a cat snuck in front of the camera while we were preparing a scene.
7. If you could transform a feeling or emotion into a visual image or a film scene, what would it look like?
C: It would be a scene where a character sits on a park bench, sketching drawings in their art journal, while the wind blows through their hair and they hear various sounds of nature.
8. If you had to create a piece of work that represents the entire experience in the project, what would it look like? What colors, shapes, or images would you use?
C: The piece would be a combination of abstract shapes, symbolizing the diversity of experiences. I would use warm colors, like orange and yellow, to reflect the warmth and positive emotions I felt throughout the project.
